Gryffe High School PTA Minutes Wednesday 15 March 2006


Welcome John Wilson, President, welcomed members to the meeting.

Present John Wilson, Peter Hempsey, Caroline Watt, Julie Whiteford, Alan Tidd, Billy Sweetin, Jean Hay, Heather Palmer, Angela Paterson, Pamela McKie and David Mackie.

Minutes from previous meeting The minutes from the last meeting on Wednesday 11 January were agreed.

Matters arising

1. Quiz Night Friday 19 May 2006 7.00 for 7.30 pm

As in previous years this event will be held in the school staff room.

Trevor Wilson to arrange licence – cost estimated at approximately £10. Pamela will advise Trevor.

It was agreed that 30 bottles of white and 17 bottles of red wine left over from the Race Night would be sold at £6 per bottle.

2 crates of Budweiser and 2 crates of Miller would be purchased and sold at £1.50 per bottle.

Soft drinks to be sold at £0.75 and water at £0.50.

Crisps, nuts will also be provided. Jean Hay will organise.

It was agreed that each team/table should have a maximum of 6 members.

The winning team will each receive a bottle of wine and the losers a tube of smarties each.

A £10 Marks and Spencer’s token and a bottle of wine will be given to Mike Edwards, Quiz Master.

It was suggested that committee members should each do a half hour shift at the bar.

Alan Tidd will organise some local advertising, the ticket price is £3.00 and John Wilson will send out tickets to PTA members. Tickets will also be available at the school office.

A raffle will take place using prizes left over from the Race Night.

Committee members to be available to set-up at 6.30 pm.

2. Race Night

£935.02 profit was made from this event. It had been a very enjoyable night but it was felt that a few more teams for next year would make it even better.

3. Ceilidh 11 November 2006

To be discussed later.

4. Parents Night 23 March

Julie and Billy on duty 7.15-8.15 approximately.

5. New Intake Evening 18 May 2006

PTA to provide tea/coffee and sell ties. John Malcolm, John Wilson, David McKie, Pamela McKie, Caroline Watt and Angela Paterson on duty.

Peter Hempsey advised the PTA that due to staffing difficulties within the music department the Spring Concert and the Summer Concert will not take place this year.

Correspondence Grant Remittances received, one for £400.00 and one for £100.00. Renfrewshire Council request signatures. P Hempsey to verify.

Renfrewshire Council sent reminder for receipts concerning grants of £2400.00 – P Hempsey to find receipts.

If you are collecting schools vouchers for Tesco/Sainsburys they can be handed in at the office.

Carol McQuade has sent a note of resignation to the PTA committee.

100+ Club February winner £200.00 – number 10 – Elizabeth Dunn.
March winner £25.00 – number 230 – Fiona Michael.

Two cheques for £25.00 have never been cashed by M.McAllister and it was felt that we may now safely assume that they never will be.

Alan Tidd is looking for someone to take over the 100 Club as his daughter will be leaving school this year.

Wish List There was only one request for one Scottish Schools Cross Country Track Suit for Callum Hawkins at a cost of £65.00. This was agreed.

Mr Hempsey advised that the school has been registered as an Eco School and that the purchase of recycling bins etc may be required in the future and that they may approach the PTA to assist with this in the future.

Treasurers Report The bank balance as at 28 February 2006 was £2210.96

Date of next meeting and AGM The next meeting of the PTA and the AGM will be held at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 10 May 2006.
